WOTC Extension Must Wait Until 2012
It’s been all over the news. The U. S. House and Senate agreed to pass a 2-month extension of the 2011 payroll tax reduction. Unfortunately, the tax extenders including WOTC, Research and Development and other important tax incentive programs were not included in this hotly contested legislation.
It is clear, however, that the White House and Senate leadership continue to support tax extenders, which are one of the Senate’s top priorities. (more…)

Renewal of Key Tax Incentives Still Up In the Air
As reported by Jamie Dupree Washington Insider, Senate Majority Leader Harry Read’s office has released a summary of elements included in the Senate’s version of the tax compromise between President Obama and Congressional Republicans. The list is long and may include other provision of interest to you. For my purposes, however, this post focuses on employment-based tax incentives (and the much prized R&D credit). (more…)

Tax Extenders NOT Included in Continuing Resolution
Congress passed the Continuing Resolution yesterday, providing funds to keep the government going through December 3rd. While many hoped the legislation would include Senator Baucus’ Tax Extenders Bill, those hopes were dashed. That, however, was not a surprise. (more…)

Work Opportunity Tax Credit for Hurricane Katrina Employees
Recently, I’ve received inquiries about Congressional efforts to extend the expired Hurricane Katrina provision of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program. Here’s the latest as I understand it.
The Hurricane Katrina WOTC provision has NOT yet been extended. But it is part of the currently idle Baucus Job Creation and Tax Cuts Act — also known as the Baucus Tax Extenders bill. (more…)

Jobs Bill Passes House – Tax Credits Expanded Big Time!
As we anticipated, the U.S. House of Representatives has sent the Small Business Jobs Bill to President Obama’s desk for signing. The Senate passed HR 5297 last week, sending it to the House where it was passed on Wednesday. See previous post. President Obama is expected to sign. (more…)
