A multi-jurisdictional bid for a new enterprise zone designation is well underway by the California communities of Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs. While these communities are closely tied geographically to the existing Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone, sponsors believe the two zones will complement each other for the benefit of the region.

Enterprise zone designation in California is a highly competitive process. Significant expense, expertise, and effort are being contributed to the bid, including large pledges of funding from members of the business community. Selections are made by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Applications for the upcoming round of selections are due by September 15, 2010.
