Rick Orlov, Staff Writer for the Contra Costa Times reports that local officials from Los Angeles are speaking out against Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate state enterprise zones and redevelopment areas. This comes as no surprise, of course, and we anticipate many more state and local leaders to join that chorus.
As Mr. Orlov explains, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (pictured here) is reviewing the details of the governor’s proposals. He has, however, already made up his mind on certain critical points.
“Los Angeles is prepared to shoulder its fair share of the responsibility,” Villaraigosa said. “But any scenario that would completely eliminate the redevelopment zone and state enterprise zones is a non-starter.”
Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcón adds, “We need to stand up loud and clear to defend these enterprise zones and redevelopment areas.”
