On the tail of Governor Jerry Brown’s admission today that he did not yet have the votes needed for his budget reforms, we hear now from five Republican State Senators involved in the negotiations. The Republican Caucus of the California State Senate has made a PDF copy of the letter available on its website. It was signed by Senators Tom Berryhill of Oakdale, Sam Blakeslee of San Luis Obispo, Anthony Cannella of Ceres, Bill Emmerson of Hemet, and Tom Harman of Huntington Beach.
Attached to the letter is a list of their reform proposals, which they had hoped to see reflected in the Governor’s own legislative agenda. This hope was, of course, disappointed — contributing the current impasse admitted by the Governor this morning.
The Senators’ letter included a ray of hope for defenders of California’s enterprise zone program. Among the reforms requested in their negotiation with Governor Brown is the following short simple statement:
- Save but reform Redevelopment Agencies and Enterprise Zones
