Candidates Sharron Runner (Republican) and Darren W. Parker (Democrat) participated in a televised debate yesterday — part of their campaign for California State Senate District 17.  The seat was recently left empty when former Senator George Runner (Sharron Runner’s husband) won his bid for membership on the State Board of Equalization.
Today’s column by Staff Writer Laura Dixon describes the debate in The Santa Clarita Valley Signal (www.the-signal.com).  Both candidates indicated their support for the state’s enterprise zone program and that they would reject Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate the program as part of the budget fix this year.
The special election is slated for February 15th.
