A delegation from the WOTC Coalition visited the Whitehouse on Friday where they met with Special Assistant to the President Kareem A. Dale and Domestic Policy Council member Lauren Dunn. Their goal was to obtain White House support for reauthorization of the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program. The mission was a clear success. (more…)

Ohio State Senator Charleta Tavares (Dem) is the primary sponsor of Ohio Senate Bill 58, which creates a state tax credit for businesses that hire a “Qualified Reforming Felon.” My quick read of the bill suggests that this proposed Ohio tax credit is modeled strictly after the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit’s Ex-felon target group. Democrat Congressman Peter Welch (Vermont) announced legislation on Monday that would renew the Unemployed Veteran WOTC target group, which expired on December 31, 2010. The Veterans Employment Tax Credit Act would provide a $2,400 tax credit when businesses hire a veteran released within the past 5 years who has received unemployment benefits for at least 4 weeks during the 12 months prior to hire. The pace is picking up in the debate between Governor Jerry Brown’s budget proposals and the California enterprise zone program.
On Friday, Assemblyman and Chair of the Assembly Jobs Committee V. Manuel Perez unveiled three related bills to reform certain aspects of the enterprise zone program.
